Charles Poteat, Sugarloaf Woodworking

Today I sat down with Mr. Charles Poteat of Sugarloaf Woodworking. Though it’s possible our paths may have crossed 2+ decades ago, we just recently became acquainted through Maryland’s local marketplace. Charles has been working on restoration and custom woodwork since the mid 80’s, when he got his start through a friend, restoring older houses in Northern Montgomery County. After starting his own company in Seattle, Washington in 1986, he returned home to Maryland in 1989, where he and his studio still reside.

His favorite projects consist of architectural woodwork, including fireplace mantels, interior arch details, stairwells and railings, etc. He does projects upon request, including built-in furniture and bookshelves, hidden cabinets, and also remains busy making repairs on historic and other older homes.

He is frequently in downtown Frederick, Maryland, fixing this or that, helping Maryland homes for sale, look as they should and head to settlement, sans issue.
